Virgin Trains is owned by Virgin Group and Stagecoach and has operated the InterCity West Coast franchise since March 1997. The company operates long-distance services on the West Coast Main Line between Greater London, the West Midlands, North West England, North Wales and Scotland, connecting the major cities of London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Virgin Trains’ fleet includes its high speed Pendolino train which connects London Euston to Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow. Also part of the fleet is the express Super Voyager, which travels from Euston to Chester and North Wales, and from Birmingham to Edinburgh and Glasgow. There are also a number of standard passenger carriages.

The on-board audio entertainment system on the Pendolino and Super Voyager trains has been replaced with free Wifi in First Class, and Wifi for a charge in Standard Class. Passengers can plug their electronic devices in the sockets available in the First Class area and next to the seats with tables in Standard Class. For passengers travelling in First Class, hot and cold complimentary drinks are served throughout the day.

Besides the standard Anytime, Advance and Off-Peak tickets, Virgin Trains also offer a plethora of year-round special offers and promotions. A Family & Friends Railcard costs £28 for one year and allows up to 4 adults and 4 children to travel on one card. For even greater savings, this can also be used in conjunction with other Advance fares. For passengers travelling in groups of three to nine, there is an online discount available on the Adult Advance fares. Train times will usually play a role in defining the price of tickets.
