St. Ives is a small seaside resort on the North coast of Cornwall, that is famous for the beautiful quality of its light throughout the year. This has been a draw to many artists and sculptors who have chosen to live and work in the city over the decades. The original town centre huddles around its bay and is full of little streets, quaint, original shops and varied dining, ranging from gastro-pubs, freshly caught and prepared fish and chips, to high-end gourmet choices.
It is possible to travel to St. Ives via Newquay Cornwall Airport, on flights operated by Aer Lingus, Flybe, Germanwings and Ryanair. Newquay Cornwall Airport is located just over 50 km from St. Ives. Regular local buses and taxis link the airport to Newquay town centre, from where the journey can be completed by bus or train. Taxis and car rentals are available at Newquay Airport.
St. Ives is on a branch of the London to Paddington railway line. To travel to St. Ives by train passengers alight at St. Erth Station to pick up a connecting train. Both sections of the journey are operated by Great Western Railways. St. Ives Station is located above Porthminster Beach and just a short walk to the town centre.
St. Ives has a small bus station situated next to the train station. Local buses, operated by the St. Ives Bus Company, run between the town and Lelant, Carbis Bay, Truro and Hayle, as well as Penzance. Regional buses, operated by National Express Coaches, arrive in St. Ives from Newquay, London and other UK cities. Taxis are available at the train and bus station.
