Endangered Languages in Europe

Did you know that the vast majority of European languages are considered endangered? Only 24 of the continent’s languages are considered official languages of the European Union and just a handful more are nationally recognised as official. UNESCO predicts that at our current rate of preservation, nearly 50% of the world’s languages will be wiped out by the end of the century which will signal the end of an era of incredible linguistic and cultural diversity which traditionally characterised Europe.

In an attempt to slow this whole process down, we created the ultimate resource for endangered languages in Europe aimed at guiding you through the remote and beautiful regions where these rare tongues continue to flourish. We’re convinced that tourism can play a part in stimulating local economies while increasing awareness of this growing problem. We can’t afford to lose the insight these languages provide us into the very nature of humanity. So let’s do all we can to promote their survival!
