What do I need to know about travelling on National Express buses?

    No, one child under 3 years old may travel for free when accompanied by a paying passenger 16+ years old. Any additional children under the age of 16 must purchase a child's ticket. Passengers under the age of 16 travelling on a child's ticket must be able to produce an official piece of identification bearing their photograph and date of birth.


    Check-in is required for international Eurolines buses travelling from London's Victoria Coach Station or Dover's Eurolines Travel Centre 1 hour before departure. No check-in is required for any other National Express bus routes; however, arriving at least 10 minutes before departure is strongly recommended.

Buses from Dublin to London

Bus journeys from Dublin to London begin at Busaras on Store Street Dublin and arrive at London Victoria coach station. Most of the journeys begin in the evening, with four coaches leaving Busaras between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. for Dublin Port. The Stena ferry crosses to Holyhead in three hours. From there, travel is by National Express or Megabus coach to London Victoria. The P&O ferry crossing to Liverpool takes about eight hours. Up to nine National Express coaches leave Liverpool bus station for London daily.

Trains from Dublin to London

Passengers travelling by train from Dublin to London make the journey to Dublin Port and board a train on arrival at Holyhead or Liverpool. Four trains leave Holyhead daily, two before 9:00 a.m. and two between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. All trains arrive at London Euston. Virgin runs the majority of trains and the journey takes between eight and nine hours. The Arriva route involves three changes and takes about eleven hours. Several trains leave Liverpool Lime Street and Liverpool Central for London Euston daily.

Flights from Dublin to London

Over fifty planes leave Dublin Airport for London daily, with at least two flights per hour. The main destinations are Heathrow and Gatwick airports, with flights to Luton, Stansted and London City airports also available. Providers include Aer Lingus, Ryanair, British Airways and Cityjet. All of these flights are direct and the arrival destinations have frequent and efficient transport links to the centre of London. Flying time is between one and one and a half hours.
