Travelling to Leeds

The closest airport to the city centre is Leeds Bradford airport, which operates flights across Europe, particularly with Ryanair and Monarch. To get to the airport from the city centre, visitors can get a taxi, which takes about 20 minutes or take the ‘flying tiger’ bus from the central bus station or the train station.

As one of the country’s largest cities, train services operate to Leeds from across the country. Midland Mainline and East Coast Trains run direct services to Leeds from the extreme ends of Britain; from Plymouth in the south to Aberdeen in the north, and a service from London takes just 3 hours. Other train stations in the city, particularly Burley and Headingley, run services between Leeds, Harrogate and York.

As a rather large city, Leeds has two major bus operators: First and Access. These services provide easy and efficient access around Leeds and its outskirts. There are many taxi providers, and the city is creating more and more cycle lanes and pedestrianised zones each year. To get into the university areas of Hyde Park and Headingley, a train from the central station takes just ten minutes. There is even a bike rental store directly outside the main train station.
